Healing in Me

HEALING IN ME
John Nelson / Thomas Hay / Jason Hetland / Trevor Ballinger / Harold Clark / Nathan Covey / Danny Myrick / Bonnie Bishop / Jay Clementi
They train you to shoot and not think twice
That doesn’t work in civilian life
Prescribe you Seraquil and Abilify
Say see you in a month if you’re still alive
They thank you for your service send you out the door
Call up the doctor when you’re needing some more
But the doctor don’t know what he’s talking about
Guess it’s up to me to try to figure it out
So I hop in the truck and take it for a ride
Turn the radio up try to find some light
You can’t heal the world
With just one little song
And I don’t feel so alone
As long as I’m singing along
Cause there’s something bout a beat and a melody
Hits me with the truth and it sets me free
And I’m feeling healing in me
You know it’s hard to find yourself and reintegrate
When you’re carrying the scars of your anger and hate
Take away your weapon give you one last mission
But there’s no such thing as a peaceful transition
You can’t heal the world
With just one little song
And I don’t feel so alone
As long as I’m singing along
Cause there’s something bout a beat and a melody
Hits me with the truth and it sets me free
And I’m feeling healing in me
When I fall to pieces and life goes wrong
Then don’t stop believing comes on
You can’t heal the world
With just one little song
But I don’t feel so alone
As long as I’m singing along
Cause there’s something bout a beat and a melody
Hits me with the truth and it sets me free
And I’m feeling healing
Oh I’m feeling the healing in me

CAN'T BELIEVE I MISS THAT SHIT
John Nelson / Bonnie Bishop
You got your FUBARs and your SNAFUs
Your boring food and filthy boots
Your SOPS and your PCCs
Your additional duties and FRGs
Milspeck vests and full fingered gloves
And we signed up for all the above
Learning the meaning of the “voluntold”
Man all that stuff it gets really old
But I guess the whole point of this
Is I can’t believe I miss that shit
Like remember the time we drove our bikes to Vegas
Dressed like clowns because they made us
Put on those orange and yellow safety gear
You could have seen us from the stratosphere
A pack of sharpies on the interstate
The desert heat hundred twenty-eight
The kind of memory you think you’d hate
But if you don’t know man you just wait
Cause the funny thing about it
Is I can’t believe I miss that shit
And it’s weird
Cause you’re not supposed to feel that way
But good or bad it’s those memories I think of everyday
Yeah, like how about the time we got locked in the motor pool
Because out of eight thousand there was one damn fool
He lost his nods and they lost their minds
Shit like that happened all the time
They kept us there for seventy-two hours
It was mass punishment from senior powers
The toxic leaders and overreactions
All because of some minor infractions
It felt like we were living in a pit
I can’t believe I miss that shit
Now irony is living in the barracks
And being given a seven-million-dollar tank
But you can’t have a microwave in your room
That would be a dangerous mistake
When the higher ups made up their dumb rules
We all got drunk and acted like fools
We bought a taser and zapped each other
Cause you know in the Army that’s how you bond together
And I guess the whole point of this
I can’t believe I miss that shit
Oh, it’s weird
Cause you’re not supposed to feel that way
Good or bad it’s those memories I think of every day
And it’s weird
Cause you’re not supposed to feel that way
Good or bad it’s those memories I think of every day
Combat is the greatest experience
Because it’s terrifying and it’s real
Stuck out in the middle of nowhere
At an outpost barely an acre square
And there’s mortars, bullets, and snipers galore
Hell, nowadays I miss nothing more
Cause you’ve never felt more alive
Than after an IED that you’ve survived
And if I’d been ten steps back I’d be dead from it
And I guess that’s the whole point of this
I can’t believe I miss that shit
Yeah I guess the whole point of this
I can’t believe I still miss that shit

Common Ground

COMMON GROUND
Nathan Covey / Jay Clementi
We’ve all got more common ground than we don’t
We’re all swimming that same water, all floating that same boat
We all wanna get our dance on put our pants on the same way
Seems like you can’t find no common ground looking round today
We’re all walking on our own path of faith
We’d all be better off if we had a touch more grace
We all want to be loved and friends we can trust
We all got mommas and big plans we dream up
We’ve all got more common ground than we don’t
We’re all swimming that same water, floating that same boat
We all wanna get our dance on put our pants on the same way
Seems like you can’t find no common ground looking round today
Been feeling bitterness brewing inside me
People just not knowing the costs of being free
So many bled for the flag and paid with their youth
They did it for this country, their family, and you
We’ve all got more common ground than we don’t
We’re all swimming that same water, all floating that same boat
We all wanna get our dance on put our pants on the same way
Seems like you can’t find no common ground looking round today
We’ve all got more common ground than we don’t
We’re all swimming that same water, all floating that same boat
We all wanna get our dance on sing a song of hope
We’ve all got more common ground than we don’t

Kill The Beast

KILL THE BEAST
Trevor Ballinger / Danny Myrick
Green eyes lurking in the shadows
Waiting on me to fall asleep
Combat load couple hundred rounds of ammo
All fueled up on hate and nicotine
You’ve been on a lifelong mission
I think it’s time you learn the truth
Better pray to your God and hope he’s listening
My eyes getting bigger got my finger on the trigger
Tonight I’m coming after you
This ones been a long time coming
Been waiting on you my whole damn life
Tormented and tired but I’m all done running
Summon all the angels, prepare the feast
Tonight I’m gonna kill the beast
Wanna find me a woman wanna make her my wife
Have a couple kids show em my light
But there’s one more thing I gotta do mamma
To be everything I wanna be for you
This ones been a long time coming
Been waiting on you my whole damn life
Tormented and tired but I’m all done running
Summon all the angels, prepare the feast
Tonight I’m gonna kill the beast
There’s a man in the mirror I recognize
I want to watch your dark soul leave your eyes
This ones been a long time coming
Been waiting on you my whole damn life
Tormented and tired but I’m all done running
Summon all the angels, prepare the feast
Tonight I’m gonna kill the beast
Tonight I’m gonna kill the beast
Tonight I’m gonna kill the beast

Life Behind Bars

LIFE BEHIND BARS
Harold Clark / Jay Clementi
I want to show you a picture of the old me
Back when the doctors couldn’t tell me one thing
When I couldn’t make the hurt go away
When I was hell bent on digging my own grave
Because I lost some buddies back in ‘03
I felt ashamed why was it them and not me
I hear their laughs and jokes in my ear
Their voice saying hey Clark, let’s grab a beer
Now I have a new life behind bars
There’s been a reckoning in my heart
One mile at a time, I got some uphill climbs
But it’s making me stronger and stronger
This new life behind bars
Sometimes the route is straight and smooth black tar
Or windy potholed, worn out, lost roads
But I always make it home
And I’m getting stronger and stronger
I’m focused on my lane and always shifting gears
Seen that summit sunrise through gratitude tears
Sometimes I’m just holding on for dear life
But I’m getting better for my son, my daughter, and my wife
I have a new, life behind bars
There’s been a reckoning in my heart
One mile at a time, I got some uphill climbs
But it makes me stronger and stronger
This new life behind bars
Sometimes the route is straight and smooth black tar
Or windy potholed, worn out, lost roads
But I always make it home
And I’m getting stronger and stronger
It’s just a piece of metal, some spokes and a couple wheels
But I can’t put a price on the way it makes me feel
Somehow it turned my life around
And it takes me to a place where I can heal
I have a new, life behind bars
There’s been a reckoning deep in my heart
One mile at a time, I got some uphill climbs
And it makes me stronger and stronger
This new life behind bars
Sometimes the route is straight and smooth black tar
Or windy potholed, worn out, lost roads
But it always takes me home
And I’m getting stronger and stronger
Stronger and stronger

My America

|

MY AMERICA
Jason Hetland / Danny Myrick
My America is sandy blonde hair and green eyes
Three little girls that are all mine
Taught to do right by their last name
My America
Picks somebody up when they fall
Knows every damn name on that wall
Who they left behind
Who laid it all on the line for—
My America
It’s the kinda place that we all love
We don’t see color
When we all bleed red and the white and blue
That’s why I fought for you and
My America
We try to make room for every one of us
We all get a shot
If we wanna work hard in the home of the Stars and Stripes
It’s a helluva life
My America
My America
Is a room full of gold star families
Giving them everything they ever need
Hell, they ain’t even gotta ask
In my America
We can come together and feel free
To agree even if it’s just to disagree respectfully
That’s how I wanna be in—
My America
It’s the kinda place that we all love
We don’t see color
When we all bleed red and the white and blue
That’s why I fought for you and
My America
We try to make room for every one of us
We all get a shot
If we wanna work hard in the home of the Stars and Stripes
It’s a helluva life
My America
Bowing your head don’t seem like a lot to ask
Man, remove your hat
And think about the ones
The daughters and the sons who never made it back
Every time they wave that flag
In my America
My America
We try to make room for every one of us
We all get a shot
If we wanna work hard in the home of the Stars and Stripes
It’s a helluva life
In my America
Yeah, that’s my America

Two Little Hands

TWO LITTLE HANDS
Thomas Hay / Bonnie Bishop
I’ve seen death
More than a thousand times
But the one that haunts me now
Is my own child
I couldn’t cry
The day we buried her
I guess all that war just made me numb
The miracle
Of life we made
So perfect and so still
And if that don’t make you
Believe in God
Then nothing ever will
Two little hands
Tattooed on my chest
Remind me of how far you’ve come
And how much we’ve been blessed
They said you didn’t stand a chance
But day by day you fought your fight
And made us understand
The miracle
Of life we made
Is the prayer we’re praying still
And if that don’t make you
Believe in God
Then nothing ever will
The miracle
Of life we made
Is the prayer we’re praying still
And if that don’t make you
Believe in God
Then nothing ever will
Like two little hands
Two little hands

EMOTION NO MORE
Harold Clark / Nathan Covey / John Nelson / Thomas Hay / Jason Hetland / Trevor Ballinger / Jay Clementi
Listening to my earbuds puts me in a different world
Songs about amen and finding the perfect girl
Music unlocks the truth in me
Opens up my heart and it sets me free
I ain’t afraid of emotion no more
I ain’t afraid of emotion no more
Not caring what they think is the key
To the door to be so much more
I ain’t afraid of emotion no more
I was living with a heart growing colder
Letting go takes the weight off my shoulders
Back to bare feet and my old soul
Mudding dually trucks and smoking a big bowl
I ain’t afraid of emotion no more
I ain’t afraid of emotion no more
Not caring what they think is the key
To the door to be so much more
I ain’t afraid of emotion no more
I ain’t afraid of emotion no more
I ain’t afraid of emotion no more
Not caring what they think is the key
To the door to be so much more
I ain’t afraid of emotion no more

Fire of the Flash

FIRE OF THE FLASH
Trevor Ballinger / Milton King / Raymond Moore / Amy Speace
From the fire of the flash
I feel the heat of the past
Getting out of the blast
And moving on
I don’t have control
And I’ve gotta let it go
The harder I fight it
The less I grow
I refuse to go back I removed the mask
And I watched it all disappear
It was hard getting here living with the fear
The fire of the flash
From this point on
I am standing strong
Found the peace within calm
Where I belong
From the heat of this flame
I’m not the same
We all can change
Don’t get me wrong
I refuse to go back so I’ll remove the mask
And watch it all disappear
It was hard getting here living the fear
The fire of the flash
So I’ll make a pledge
To this new oath I accept
It’s my next step
Toward being free
I refuse to go back into the embers of the ash
So I watch them all disappear
It was hard getting here living with the fear
And the fire of the flash
